KDU Law Students to Participate in the Jean-Pictet Competition on International Humanitarian Law in Albania

Jean-Pictet Competition on International Humanitarian Law is a unique experience that distinguishes itself from contemporary mooting competitions on the basis of its motto i.e. ‘taking the law out of the books’, and putting it into practice. This one-of-a-kind competition selects teams from around the world to participate in a week-long simulated conflict, during which time teams engage in role-play as different entities involved in a conflict, including military legal officers, humanitarian aid agencies and activist groups.

At a time when understanding and knowledge of the international laws of war is more critical than ever, a team representing the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University is one among three teams selected from Sri Lanka and fully sponsored by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to fly to Durres, Albania for the 38th Edition of Jean-Pictet Competition, to be held from 18th to 26th March 2022. KDU team comprises Chandrika Manamendra, Tracy Seneviratne and Chirantha Devaraja, students of the Faculty of Law in KDU, who depart this week to join their fellow Picteists in Albania.
