A five day Workshop on International Environmental Law organized by the Faculty of Law, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) in collaboration with Moragoda International Law Trust was held on 24th, 25th,26th, 31st of August and 1st of September at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University. It was the Second Moragoda Endowment Professorship.
The resource person of the workshop was Professor Veerle Heyvaert from London School of Economics and Political Science who is expert and a scholar on Environmental Law and European Law. The Inauguration Ceremony of the workshop was held on 24th August 2015, in which Mr. Kiyoshi Amada, Chief Representative of Japan International Corporation Agency (JICA) was the chief guest. In his speech, Mr. Kiyoshi Amada expressed views on sustainable development in Sri Lanka and JICA’s contribution towards the same.
The Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the workshop was held on 1st September 2015. The chief guest of the event was Dr. Muhammad Kurshid, Director General South Asia Co-operative Environmental Programme. In his speech Dr. Kurshiddiscussed the role of SACEP in environmental protection.
Deputy Vice Chancellor (Defence and Administration), Major General RuwanKulatunga, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Thilak Weerasooriya, Professor Veerle Heyvaert, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dr. Prathiba Mahanamahewa, Head of the Department, Mr. Mangala Wijesinghe and members of the academic staff of Faculty of Law attended both occasions.
About 45 membersfrom the Armed Forces, public institutions, Universities and postgraduate students participated in the workshop.
