Guest Lecture on Recent Changes to the Labour Legislations in Sri Lanka

A Guest Lecture organised by the Legal Aid Centre of the Faculty of Law, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) was held on 22nd April 2022 with the participation of the final year undergraduates of the Faculty of Law. This was the third session of the Guest Lecture Series organised by the Legal Aid Centre for 2022 with the view of educating the students on practical aspects of Law and providing guidance for career development.

The Guest Speaker of this session was Ms. Chamantha Unamboowe who is an Attorney at Law practising in Appellate Courts. Her lecture titled “Recent Changes to the Labour Legislations in Sri Lanka” focused on the latest amendments made to labour laws in Sri Lanka such as; increasing the minimum age of employment up to 16 years, increasing the monthly minimum salary in the private sector to Rs. 12,500/- and the removal of restrictions on maternity leave for women with two or more children. This session was coordinated by Ms. Darshane Jayakody, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Law, KDU and Mr. Anushka Perera, Lecturer, Faculty of Law, KDU.
