A Guest Lecture on ‘Legal Education: Laying the Foundation for a Noble Professional Career’ organized by the Faculty of Law, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University for the newly enlisted LLB undergraduates of Intake 39 was held on 21st January 2022. The resource person was Dr. Athula Pathinayake, the Principal of Sri Lanka Law College. Dr. Pathinayake was a renowned legal practitioner in both the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia. He had served as the Executive Director of the Centre on Legal Profession, School of Law, Deakin University, Australia from 2016 to 2020. Dr. Pathinayake, being an award-winning academic with extensive experience in developing curricula and innovative practical courses, and in organizing competitions and research conferences, is held high regard by students and peers for both teaching and research.
The lecture focused on the importance of the legal education, legal profession, professional ethics, and etiquette. Dr. Pathinayake also shared his experience on legal practice in foreign countries and career opportunities for legal professionals. After the lecture, Dr. Athula Pathinayake had a cordial discussion with the Vice Chancellor, Major General Milinda Peiris, other Military officers and Academic Staff of the Faculty of Law, KDU.
